Mrs. Rachel Angella Eulalie Turcotte of 126 Park St. in Gardner died at home on Sunday, May 4, 2008 with her children at her bedside.

Mrs. Turcotte was born in Gardner in January of 1913, the eleventh child of Eugene and Bernadette Barthel. She graduated from Holy Rosary School in 1926 and from Ste. Anne's Academy in Marlborough in 1930. In 1933 she graduated from Newton-Wellesley School of Nursing and became an RN in 1934, an achievement she was proud of for the rest of her life.

She married Atty. Eugene O. Turcotte in 1935 and they spent the next 61 years together until his death in 1996. Beyond the demands of raising a large family, responsibilities which they accepted with gladness, they loved the game of golf, the state of Florida in winter, and traveling the world.

Mrs. Turcotte is survived by her daughters, Suzanne B. Saunders of Gardner, Denise R. Hannon and her husband Joseph of Chicago, M. Celeste Torrens of Los Angeles, and Nathalie J. Weeks of New York City, and by her sons, E. Guy Turcotte and his wife Michele of Gardner and Daniel O. Turcotte and his wife Rizalyn of Belmont, NC. She also leaves 20 grandchildren (two pre-deceased her) and 17 great-grandchildren (one pre-deceased her).

She was a former member of the Cercle Social Franco-Americain and the Gardner Woman's Club. She was a co-organizer of the Blood Bank in Gardner during World War II and volunteered as a nurse in Gardner during the War. Among her many other activities was the organizing of fund-raising projects for Ste. Anne's Academy, and she was a Girl Scout leader in the early 1950's. She also co-founded the B & C dance club and was a long-time member of Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg.

She was a life-long member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, and was a member of its Ladies of Ste. Anne Sodality.
