Rachel C. (Melanson) Godin, 82, of 125 Connors Street, Gardner died peacefully Monday, May 30, 2011 in Legends Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Gardner, surrounded by her family.
Born in Gardner on November 30, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Leota (Beaudoin) Melanson.
Prior to retiring in 1990, Rachel was employed for 30 years by the Holiday Inn in Leominster as a waitress and party manager.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner.
Rachel enjoyed playing cards, bingo, cooking French cuisine, dancing and watching game shows on television. She loved going to Foxwoods, Salisbury Beach and traveling; especially cruises to Hawaii. Rachel was a caregiver and volunteer at the Binnall House and the Senior Citizen Center. She most enjoyed spending time with her family, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Rachel was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Joseph E. Godin who died September 11, 1998.
She leaves one son, Kevin J. Godin of Naples, FL; two daughters, Marie A. Lajoie and her husband Gerald of Royalston and Kelly Blanchette and her husband James of Gardner; three brothers, Arthur "GooGoo" Melanson and his wife Madeleine of Gardner, Robert Melanson of Hopesound, FL and Raymond Melanson and his wife Judy of Gardner; one sister, Lorraine Manca of Gardner; seven grandchildren, Nicole Hart of Gardner, Jody Lajoie of Gardner, Jenna Pereira of Westport, MA, Kyle Blanchette of Gardner, Joseph Godin, Joshua and Jacob Forman all of Georgia; five great-grandchildren, Jayce Lajoie, Nova Lajoie, Jayden Pereira, Peyton Hart and Kamryn Hart; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one daughter, Carol O'Rourke.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, June 9th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Thursday, June 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
