Philip C. Niemela, 72, of Templeton, died peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2017 in his residence, surrounded by family.
Born in Gardner on November 29, 1944, he was the son of the late Waino and Dorothy (Cramn) Niemela.
Philip graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1962.
He was a United States Vietnam War Navy Veteran, who proudly served his Country from 1962 through 1966.
Philip was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Correctional Industries as an Optician for 15 years, retiring in 2010. He was previously employed by Pearl Vision for several years.
He was a member of the Chestnut Street United Methodist Church of Gardner. Philip was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, former member of the Deep Sea Club of Gardner, and former member and Past President of the Beagle Club of Gardner.
Philip loved going to antique car shows and antique stores. He enjoyed woodworking, and treasured spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 34 years, Karen (Dufort) Niemela of Templeton; two sons, Larry M. Dufort of Chicopee and Philip C. Niemela of CA; three daughters, Jennifer Oliveira and her husband Darren of Gardner, Nicole M. Vachon of Gardner, and Kristen Niemela of Fitchburg; one brother, Donald Niemela of Templeton; seven grandchildren, Ashley Dufort, Michael Dufort, Olivia Travis, Kaela Niemela, Kassidy Niemela, Andrew Oliveira and Alex Oliveira.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 24th at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial with Military Honors will be in Green Bower Cemetery, 101 Winter Street, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held Friday, February 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
