Paula K. (Smith) d’Entremont, 85, of Leominster, formerly of Gardner, died peacefully Monday, April 3, 2023, in her residence surrounded by her family.
Born in Gardner on February 27, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Christine (McAdams) Smith. She grew up in Westminster and graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1956. Paula received her Associate in Nursing from the Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing in 1959, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston University in 1965, and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1970. Paula was employed by Mount Wachusett Community College as a Professor of Nursing from 1973 to 1998 and Chairperson of the Nursing Department from 1998 to 2001.
Paula was a congregant of First Baptist Church in Westminster for many years and Bethany Baptist Church of Gardner in more recent years, where she was very active in its Sunday School program as a teacher and as Sunday School Superintendent.
Paula spent countless hours as President, Vice President, board member, Professional Education Chair, Public Education Co-Chair, Daffodil Chairperson, and Crusade Chair for the American Cancer Society. She organized and led a local breast cancer support group and was very active in the Reach to Recovery program. She was instrumental in the Gardner Relay for Life since its inception.
Paula enjoyed spending time with her family and caring for many members of her extended family. She also enjoyed hosting parties for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. In more recent years, she enjoyed scrapbooking, reading, and cheering on the Bruins. She was delighted to welcome two great-grandchildren into the family earlier this year.
Paula is survived by her husband of 61 years, Francis A. d’Entremont of Leominster; two daughters, Elizabeth J. Viens of Royalston and Ruth C. d’Entremont of Cary, NC; three grandchildren, Justin Viens, Alexandria (Beau) Forgues, and Cameron (Angela Wojdak) Viens; two great-grandchildren, Addison Kay Viens and Dutton Thomas Forgues; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister, Sherrill S. Manning; and two brothers, Bradley H., and Winston S. Smith.
Calling Hours will be held Friday, May 5, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in Woodside Cemetery, Narrows Road, Westminster, MA. Funeral Services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, 72 Ryan Street, Gardner, MA, followed by a reception.
