Paul Woodcome

November 15, 1928 — September 23, 2006

Mr. Paul J. "Woody" Woodcome, 77, of 1 Otter River Greene, Otter River , formerly of Gardner and retiring to South Yarmouth in 1985, died peacefully Saturday, September 23rd in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, surrounded by his family.

Born in Gardner on November 15, 1928, he was the son of Leon F. and Kathleen E. (Mulcahy) Woodcome.

He was a plastics engineer employed by Foster Grant - American Hoechst Co. of Leominster for 30 years, retiring in 1985. Mr. Woodcome was a 1946 graduate of Gardner High School and attended University of MA - Amherst where he received a Bachelor's degree in Horticulture.

He was presently a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Baldwinville and formerly a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Gardner where he served as Lector. He also served as Altar Server and Eucharistic Minister in St. Pius the Tenth Church of South Yarmouth and was very active in church affairs. He assisted in church ministries at Cranberry Pointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Harwich. He was a class reunion committee member of Gardner High School. Mr. Woodcome was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Feehan assembly in South Yarmouth, serving at one time as Treasurer. Previously he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Bishop Bevan assembly in Fitchburg, serving at one time as Faithful Navigator.

He enjoyed gardening, landscaping, woodworking, stamp collecting, and spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Blanche A. (Manseau) Woodcome of Otter River; a son, Stephen P. Woodcome and wife Susan of Templeton; 4 daughters, Patricia J. Woodcome of Peace Corps, Jamaica, Kathleen M. Vautour and husband Norman of Gardner, Mary Ann Kulis and husband Walter of Dracut, Cheryl A. Kasper and husband Mark of Baldwinville; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Woodcome of Bradenton, Florida; 8 grandchildren, Todd and Courtney Woodcome, Katie, Travis and Ross Vautour, Logan and Dylan Kasper, Jeremy Kulis; a great granddaughter, Mackenzie Woodcome; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Leo F. Woodcome of Leominster.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 27th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest St., Baldwinville. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, September 26th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the American Cancer Society, 6 Strathmore Rd., Natick, MA 01760.
