Paul J. "Sgt" Eaton, 85, of 34 Schoolhouse Road, East Templeton, died peacefully, Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Heywood Hospital of Gardner, surrounded by his loved ones.
Paul was born on August 9, 1929, the son of the late Carl W. Eaton, Sr. and Anna (Ryan) Eaton.
He attended Sacred Heart of Jesus School of Gardner. Paul was a member of Annunciation Parish-Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
He was employed for many years by Skins Oil Company.
Paul served in the Army National Guard for the 181st Infantry, Gardner unit for 42 years, and received the Armed Forces Reserved Medal, AR-Comp-Achievement Medal, Army Service ribbon, Infantry Shoulder Cord, Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, Rifle M16 SPS Qualification Badge, Mass Service Medal with Silver Star, Mass Emergency Service Ribbon, Mass Service Medal with Gold Eagle.
He was a member, Past Commander and Financial Officer of the American Legion Post 373 of Baldwinville.
Paul enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching boxing and Army & Navy Football games, and sitting outdoors under his pine tree with his wife. Paul also took great pleasure in treating his neighbor's dog "Luke".
He leaves his wife of 63 years, Hermine A. (Plouffe) Eaton of Templeton; ten children, David P. Eaton of Springfield, Douglas M. Eaton and his wife Carol of E. Templeton, Sharon L. Eaton of Worcester, Richard P. Eaton and his wife Sandra C. of Hooksett, NH, Sandra Eaton and significant other Donald O'Connor of Worcester, Brenda J. Martin of Winchendon, John F. Eaton of Gardner, Matthew A. Eaton and his wife Candy of Gardner and Scott A. Eaton of Leicester; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer Bourgeois, Paula Eaton, Tonya Martin, Mellisa St. Hilaire, Jessica Eaton, Jacob Eaton, Nicole Eaton, Joshua Eaton, Lillie Eaton and Scottie Eaton; fifteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, William A."Billy" Eaton; brother, Carl Eaton; sister, Dorothy Diemdowicz; and granddaughter, Tracey Mei (Brown).
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 6th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glennallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
