Norman E. Casavant

Norman E. Casavant, 86, of 51 Hospital Rd., Baldwinville, and formerly of 145 Pelley St., Gardner, died Wednesday, July 28th in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, following an illness.

Born in Winchendon on May 18, 1918, he was the son of Emile and Clarida (Couture) Casavant.

He was an expediter employed by Simplex Time Recorder Co. of Gardner for 32 years until retiring in 1983. He was also a blacksmith.

He was a 1938 graduate of Murdock High School, Winchendon.

Mr. Casavant was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. He was a member of V.F.W. Ovila Cast Post 905 of Gardner, West End Beagle Club and the Gardner Fish & Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer, and was a loyal Red Sox Fan. He enjoyed running his beagles.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, received the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star Medal, American Defense Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and served in Tunisia, Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, M. Florence (Albert) Casavant of Gardner; 1 son, Bradley N. Casavant and wife Alice of Gardner; 2 daughters, Karen A. Luckenbach and husband Michael, Nancy A. Ackerson and husband Perley all of Windsor, CT; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas B. & Christa N. Casavant, Amanda & Kate Ackerson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 3 sisters Doris Casavant, Lucille Wojdylak and Jeannette Comee.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 2nd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday, August 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
