Muriel L. (Leger) Bettez, 93, of 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, formerly of 125 Connors Street, Gardner, died peacefully Wednesday, May 26th in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner surrounded by her family.
Born in Gardner on November 1, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Philias and Marguerite (LeBlanc) Leger.
Muriel graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1934.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. She was also a Eucharistic Minister, and former member of the Holy Family League of Charity. Muriel was very active in the annual Holy Rosary Church Bazaar, and served as Treasurer for many years.
Muriel was a volunteer at Heywood Hospital, Gardner. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and former Cub Scout Leader, both for Holy Rosary troops. Muriel was a yearly participant in the Gardner Relay for Life. She was a member of the Gardner Museum.
Muriel spent her life as a homemaker and most enjoyed spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Alphonse J. Bettez, who died October 13, 1999.
Muriel leaves three sons, Normand J. Bettez and his wife Jeanne of Gardner, Donald T. Bettez and his wife Ana of Lawrence and Ernest A. Bettez and his wife Kerry (Gilliland) of Gardner; two daughters, Margaret L. Luczko and her husband Stanley of Gardner and Janice M. Rayball and her husband Michael of Watervliet, NY; one sister, Rita T. Morin of Fredericksburg, VA ; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Leger of Gardner; ten grandchildren, Karen Aveni, Michelle Bettez, Silvia Bettez, Vanesa Bettez, Kathleen Snelgrove, Kevin Luczko, Katie Bettez, Benjamin Bettez, Sean Rayball and Kristin Rayball; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas Aveni, Alyssa Aveni, Noah Snelgrove, Emma Snelgrove, Samantha Fisk, Hunter Luczko, KC Luczko and Connor Rayball; four step great-grandchildren, Jessica Hall, Joshua Hall, Melanie Matthews and Robin Hedges; nine step great-great grandchilden, Kelsey and Sarah Dilling, Cooper and Cecilia Hall, Amelia and Keira Matthews, Nicholas Voyer, Zachary LeBlanc and Kylie Hedges; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Godfrey D. Leger and Jules Leger; and two sisters, Lea McCusick and Lorraine LaRoche.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, June 2nd from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
