Mildred I. (Francis) Marion, 76, of Baldwinville died Tuesday, December 27, 2011 in Heywood Hospital, Gardner surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
She was born in Haverhill on December 28, 1934, the daughter of the late Bernard and Mildred (MacGibbon) Francis.
Mildred was a Registered Nurse who taught at Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg for 27 years, retiring in 1999.
She graduated from St. James High School in Haverhill with the Class of 1952. In 1956 she received her Bachelors Degree and Nursing Diploma from Fitchburg State College and Burbank School of Nursing. She received her Master of Arts Degree in Guidance and Psychology from Assumption College, Worcester in 1965 and in 1986 she received her Master of Science Degree in Gerontological Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Mildred was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Baldwinville, and St. Vincent de Paul Women's Guild.
She was a member of the American Nursing Association, Charter Member of Sigma Theta Tau of Fitchburg, Charter Member of Epsilon Beta Chapter International Honor Society in Nursing in Indianapolis, Indiana, a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, a member of Central Mass Agency on Aging, a member of the Board of Regents in Massachusetts and New York, and a member of the Gardner Circle of Artists.
Mildred enjoyed baking, painting, going to Foxwoods and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Daniel J. Marion who died February 29, 2000.
She leaves one son, Mark J. Marion and his wife Linda of Templeton; two daughters, Kathleen A. LeBlanc of Central Falls, RI and Patricia E. Klash and her husband Brian of Gardner; five brothers, Reverend Bernard C. Francis of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, Pastor of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, Hahnville, LA, Thomas M. Francis and his wife Jane of Haverhill, David K. Francis and his wife Mona of Seabrook, NH, John C. Francis of Kingston, NH and Kevin J. Francis and his wife Nancy of Haverhill; one sister, Marjorie J. Woodburn of Hampstead, NH; one sister in law, Dee Francis of Freemont, NH; one brother in law, William Richardson of Merrimack, NH; four grandchildren, David Marion, Miranda LeBlanc, Danielle Klash and Danni Marion; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers, Daniel G. Francis and Stephen H. Francis and by one sister, Anne M. Richardson.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 31st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1 Forest Street, Baldwinville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Baldwinville.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Friday, December 30th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
