Michael L. Girouard, 45, of 380 Welch Road, Winchendon, died Monday, August 24, 2009, in his residence, surrounded by his family, following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Philadelphia, PA on September 1, 1963, he was the son of Eugene A. and Elizabeth M. (Connolly) Girouard.
At the time of his death, Michael was a welder for the Local #4 - Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union of Worcester, MA for 25 years.
Michael graduated from Oakmont Regional High School, Ashburnham with the Class of 1981. He attended the Nuclear Power Welding School in Waterford, CT in 1985.
He was an associate member of the American Legion, Thomas P. Sweeney, Post 142 of Ashburnham.
Michael enjoyed ice fishing, fresh water fishing, hunting deer and camping out. He was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed baseball and the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed playing cribbage.
Besides his parents of Winchendon, he leaves one son, Zachary P. Gilbert of Ashburnham; two brothers, Steven D. Girouard and his wife Cynthia of S. Russell, OH and Matthew E. Girouard and his wife Elaine of Los Angeles, CA; two sisters, Jean M. Miller of Raleigh, NC and Colleen E. League and her husband Cy of Raleigh, NC; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 27th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anne's Church, 162 Center Street, S. Ashburnham. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Wednesday, August 26th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Visiting Nursing Association, Hospice, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440 or to the Heywood Hospital Oncology Dept., 242 Green Street, Gardner, MA 01440.
