Melvin M."Mut" Heglin

Melvin M. "Mut" Heglin, 83, of 22 Ken Drive, Gardner died peacefully, Tuesday, December 31, 2013 in his residence, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Gardner on September 17, 1930, he was the son of the late F. Evert and Selma (Mattson) Heglin.
Melvin attended Gardner High School, Gardner. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church of Gardner. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 129 of Gardner.
He was a United States Korean War Navy Veteran and received the Navy Occupation Medal.
Melvin was employed by Sewell Plastics of Leominster as a maintenance mechanic for 10 years, retiring in 1998. He was previously employed by Collier-Keyworth Company of Gardner, followed by Borden Chemical Company of Leominster.
Melvin enjoyed watching sports on television, and in his younger days played football for the Gardner Gymnasts Football Team. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife, playing cards with friends and crafting Christmas ornaments. He most enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, and loved attending their sporting events.
He leaves his wife of 61 years, Laurette (Leduc) Heglin of Gardner; one son, Brian P. Heglin of Swanzey, NH, one daughter, Brenda M. DesBois and her husband Thomas of Baldwinville; one brother, Leo Heglin and his wife Helen of Gardner; one sister-in-law Phyllis Heglin of Westminster; six grandchildren, Amanda Ares, Marissa Heglin, Brad Heglin, Courtney DesBois, Brooke DesBois and Derek DesBois; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Heglin who died in 1991, three brothers, Ragner, Earl and John Heglin and by two sisters, Edna Cantin and Inez Lacasse.
A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 9th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour will be held Thursday, January 9th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
