Mederic J. "Mickey" Maillet, 93, of 5 Emerald Street, Gardner died Sunday, November 6, 2011 in Hillcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fitchburg.
Born on November 28, 1917 in Bouctouche, N.B. Canada, he was the son of the Melas and Babee (DesRoche) Maillet.
Mederic was a machine operator employed by GEM Industries of Gardner for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
He was a United States WWII Army Veteran and received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Mederic was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner.
He enjoyed playing the guitar, lifting weights and driving his 1973 avocado green Ford Pinto. He was fascinated by and loved wild animals.
Mederic was predeceased by his eleven siblings; six brothers, Emilien, Fidele, Alphee, Oswald, Felix and Fred Maillet; and five sisters, Sr. Aurelie of the Sisters of Notre Dame, Roseanne Comeau, Irene Jezakewicz, Bertha Stedman and Natalie Grosch. He leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Graveside Service will be held Friday, November 11th at 2:00 p.m. in Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner.
