Matthew D. Barrieau

Matthew D. Barrieau, 64, of Athol, died peacefully Thursday, May 9, 2024, in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, after an illness.

Born in Gardner on May 11, 1959, he was the son of the late Roger J. and Jennie (Scarpa) Barrieau. He graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1977. Matt was a landscaper employed by New Age Landscaping of Athol for several years. 

Matt was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner. He was an avid sports fan, who loved all the Boston sports teams especially his Boston Bruins and Celtics. 

Matt is survived by his three brothers, Mark Barrieau and his wife Christine of Baldwinville, Andrew S. Barrieau and his wife Lori of Mequon, WI, and Daniel J. Barrieau and his wife Kelli of Ludlow; a sister-in-law, Lynn Barrieau of Westminster; four nephews, Johnpaul Barrieau, Christopher Barrieau, Zachary Barrieau and Ethan Barrieau; three nieces, Lisa Barrieau, Gina Baldwin and Kathryn Nutting; many first cousins of the Barrieau, Scarpa and Robichaud families; and special friends, the Kyle Johnson family of Athol, with whom he resided.

He was predeceased by a brother, Rock Barrieau.

Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
