Mary Ellen (Marnane) Fohy, 67, of 31 Nutting Street, Gardner, died suddenly Saturday, March 29, 2014 in Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol, after being stricken ill.
Mary was born in Gardner on April 1, 1946, the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Evelyn (Kennedy) Marnane.
She graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1964. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church during her youth.
Mary was employed in the Admitting Department of Heywood Hospital of Gardner for many years, retiring in 1986.
She enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, playing cards and puzzles. She loved animals; especially her dog, Belle and her cat Holden. Mary most enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She leaves her husband, William E. Fohy of Gardner; one son, Patrick M. Fohy of Gardner; two stepsons, William E. Fohy lV of Winchendon and John Fohy of Washington State; one brother, Michael J. Marnane and his wife Janet of Daytona Beach, FL; one sister, Eileen A. Jansson of Orange; two grandchildren, Cecilia Hallquest and Jacqueline Fohy; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by one brother, Peter R. Marnane and by one sister, Catharine Price.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours will be Thursday, April 3rd from 5 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Animal Control Facility, with checks made payable to City of Gardner Shelter Fund, c/o Board of Health, 95 Pleasant Street, Rm. 29, Gardner, MA 01440.
