Mary (Karpowicz) Aalto, 91, of 3 Old Princeton Road Cut Off, Hubbardston, died suddenly Friday, April 27th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
She was born in Gardner on March 25, 1916, the daughter of Henry J. and Boleslaw (Czajkowski) Karpowicz.
Mrs. Aalto was a Dental Assistant employed by the Templeton Developmental Center, Templeton for 15 years, retiring in October of 1981. She was previously employed by Dr. Charles Martel and Dr. Hughs.
She was a 1934 graduate of Gardner High School. Mrs. Aalto was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner. She was also a member of the Hubbardston Golden Agers and the Holy Rosary Sodality of St. Joseph?s Church, Gardner.
Mrs. Aalto was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Tarmo A. Aalto who died in 2005.
She leaves 1 son, Michael A. Sokolowski and his wife Phyllis of Hubbardson; 1 daughter, Marilyn A. Daye of Mattapan, MA; 1 step-daughter, Cynthia Freyberger and her husband Gene of Londonderry, NH; 1 brother, Edmond Karpowicz of Gardner; 2 sisters, Genevieve Dokurno and Wanda Karpowicz both of Milford, CT; 1 sister-in-law, Lorraine Karpowicz of Gardner; 4 grandchildren, David Sokolowski, Leeric Daye, Jonathon Freyberger and Erica Freyberger; 2 great-grandchildren, Elijah and Haley Sokolowski; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Aalto also leaves a special friend and aunt, Anne Hill of Templeton. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Mitchell and Joseph Karpowicz.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 4th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour at the funeral home will be Friday, May 4th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m
