Marshall J. Charland, 90, of 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner died peacefully, Saturday, March 14, 2015 in Wachusett Manor Nursing Home, Gardner.
Born in Winchendon on October 25, 1924, he was the son of the late Alfred E. and Emma M. (Rushia) Charland.
Marshall was a custodian for both Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and Sacred Heart of Jesus School for many years, retiring in 2000. He was previously employed by Heywood Wakefield Company of Gardner.
Marshall was a United States Merchant Marine WWII Veteran. He received his GED through the Veterans Program.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Church. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, VFW Post 905 Ovila Case of Gardner and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 747 of Gardner.
Marshall was an avid outdoorsman who loved working in the yard and around the house. He was an animal advocate, and strong supporter of Catholic and children's organizations.
He was predeceased by his wife, Doris (Burns) Charland, who died December 14, 2013.
Marshall leaves one sister, Lorraine Quinn of Burlington, NC and her son,
Terrance Quinn of Woodland, TX and daughter, Pamela Bray of McLeansville, NC; four additional nephews, David Kelley, Brian Kelley, Bruce Kelley and Kevin Kelley; and one additional niece, Nancy Boucher.
Funeral Services and burial will be held Wednesday, April 1st at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Animal Control Facility, with checks made payable to City of Gardner Shelter Fund, c/o Board of Health, 95 Pleasant Street, Room 29, Gardner, MA 01440.
Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner is handling the arrangements.
