Marguerite “Maggie” Belle Isle, 89, of Fitchburg, formerly of Gardner and Clearwater, FL, passed away, Monday, July 27, 2020 in the Highlands Nursing Home, Fitchburg.
Born in Gardner on April 5, 1931, she was the third youngest of nine children from the late Ernest and Roseanne (O’ Brien) Boucher. Maggie is predeceased by her loving husband, Joseph Belle Isle, who passed away May 27, 2001.
She attended Our Lady of the Holy Rosary School and attended Gardner High School. Maggie and Joe retired to Clearwater, FL, for several years before returning to Gardner. Maggie and Joe were very much involved with the local youth hockey programs for many years. She loved playing hockey as a goaltender in a women’s league. Among many endeavors, she was employed at the Gardner Skating Rink along with the Leominster State Park, worked as a private duty home health aide for several years and enjoyed helping others.
Never at a loss for words, Maggie was very friendly and outgoing. She enjoyed fishing, bowling, ceramics, needlepoint, sewing, quilting and her passion—playing BINGO.
She is very much loved and will be greatly missed by her four children, family, friends, nephews, and nieces. Maggie is survived by her children, Joan Chamberlain of Campton, NH, Joseph Belle Isle and his wife Donna of Gardner, Janice Belle Isle and her significant other Gerry Robichaud of Hubbardston, James Belle Isle and his wife Julie of Springfield; five grandchildren, Heido-Jo Hanson, Kristen and Matthew Belle Isle, Jonathan and Joey Belle Isle; three great-grandchildren, Amber Chaves, Jared Moore and Parker Rae Belle Isle; three great-great grandchildren, Jacob, Elijah and Oliver Chaves; a brother, Placid “Phil” Boucher; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her five sisters, Rita Boucher, Marie Bosselait, Jean Grant, Katherine Gallant and Theresa Gulbransen; two brothers, Joe and Rene Boucher
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
A Calling Hour will be private.
Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, current restrictions set in place by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts will be in effect at Maggie’s services.
