Malvina D. (Fournier) Darmetka, 94, of 67 Korsholm Avenue, Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday, August 2, 2011 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville following a brief illness.
Malvina was born in St. Basil, N.B. Canada on March 20, 1917, the daughter of the late Willie and Marguerite (Vaillancourt) Fournier.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner, and it's Ladies of St. Anne Society. Malvina was a devout Catholic who prayed the Rosary daily and enjoyed watching Catholic television shows. She also volunteered at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary's annual Church Bazaar.
Malvina's hobbies included cooking, gardening and traveling. She loved to clean and shovel snow. Her Pomeranian dog, "Cookette" was very special to her, and she also liked cats.
Malvina was predeceased by her husband of 10 years, Wallace W. Darmetka, who died in 1960.
She leaves two sons, Ronald G. Darmetka and Norman J. Darmetka both of Gardner; one daughter, Helen M. Darmetka of Salisbury, MD; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 7 brothers, Ronald, Enoil, Albert, Maurice, Albenie, Omer and Armand Fournier and by two sisters, Aurore Cyr and Imelda Clavet.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 6th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be Friday, August 5th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
