M. Gloria (Cormier)Martel, 65, of Charleston, SC, died at MUSC Hospital, Charleston, SC, on Saturday, September 10, 2022, surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on March 10, 1957, she was the oldest daughter of Gerald and Irma (Robichaud) Cormier.
Gloria was a talented and passionate woman. She was an accomplished glass bead artist, an adventurer with a deep passion for travel. She loved to ski, ride her e-bike and experience new cultures, foods and locales. She mentored many of her nieces and friends to aspire to be better professionally.
During her career in the high-tech industry, she worked for many companies including Digital Computer Corp., Caliper Life Sciences, Perkin Elmer and Bruker Biomedical. Her Salesforce manager position with Bruker allowed her to move to Germany with her husband in 2017 and live near the company's headquarters in Ettlingen, Germany for three years. The couple traveled extensively during this time including Abu Dhabi, China, Japan, the Canary Islands, Spain, France, Portugal and Italy among many others.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 38-years, Greg Martel of Charleston, SC; sisters, Rose Swigart of Gardner, MA, Jeannine Cormier of New Bern, NC and Lisa Briscoe and her husband Houston of Rockville, MD; In-laws, George and Joanna Martel of Westfield, MA and their extended family; sister-in-law Deane Berg of Tampa, FL; nieces, Carrie Biondi of Sioux Falls, SD, Emma Kessinger of Atlanta, GA and Hannah Choate of Boise, ID; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents, Gerald and Irma (Robichaud) Cormier; her brother, Vincent Cormier; her mother-in-law, Patricia Martel; and her niece. Kristen Burns.
The family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston SC for their exceptional care and expertise.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29, 2022, from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA, with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
Calling Hours will be held Wednesday, September 28, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
