Louise E. (Hamel) Bourgeois, 77, of 206 Conant Street, Gardner, died peacefully Saturday, March 7th in UMass Medical Center, Worcester, following a short illness, surrounded by her family.
Born on May 13, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. and Alexandra (Lapierre) Hamel.
Louise graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1955.
She was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph as a telephone operator for 27 years until her retirement in 1991.
Louise was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She enjoyed cooking and watching cooking shows, antiquing, collectables and attending flea markets. She also liked watching football.
She especially loved time spent with family.
Louise leaves her husband of 57 years, Gerald J. Bourgeois, of Gardner; one son, Joseph G. Bourgeois and his wife Yvonne, of Barre; one daughter, Linda D. Carcieri, of Gardner and her former husband, Robert A. Carcieri, of Athol; one brother, Robert R. Hamel of Winchendon; 4 grandchildren, David J. Bourgeois, and Matthew R., Kristen D., and Jessica L. Carcieri; several nieces, nephews and cousins, including a nephew Jason J. Bourgeois, and a niece, Karen E. Dempsey.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 12th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, with a mass at 11am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be held at a later date in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held March 12th from 9:30am-10:30am in the funeral home.
