Louis A"Louie" Ducharme

Louis A. "Louie" Ducharme, 82, of Gardner, died peacefully Tuesday, August 15, 2017, in his home where he had resided for the past 51 years, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Gardner on August 28, 1934, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Frances (Cavalier) Ducharme.
Louie graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1954.
He served in the United States Army, and received two Army Marksman Badges and three Army Sharpshooter Badges.
Louie was employed in the boiler room of Worcester State Hospital prior to retiring in 1993. He was previously employed for many years at Worcester State Hospital, Gardner State Hospital and Rutland Heights State Hospital as an attendant.
He was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. Louie was also a member of the Gardner Golden Agers, and the Gardner and Templeton Senior Centers.
Louie loved to travel. He traveled cross country with his long-time friend Jules, took numerous trips with his long-time friend Pete to Canada, Pennsylvania and New York, took many trips with the Gardner Golden Agers and loved winter visits to Florida and Arizona to spend time with his daughters. He loved spending time each year with his family at his favorite beach, Hampton Beach, NH, and also enjoyed spending time at Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Louie loved jazz music, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and blueberry picking. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. Louie loved spending time at the Gardner and Templeton Senior Centers playing cards; he especially loved cribbage, Texas hold'em and pitch. He had a keen interest in History, and also enjoyed going to the movies. Louie loved going out to breakfast and had an insatiable love for jelly donuts. Louie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Beverly A. (Aucoin) Ducharme who died June 12, 2002.
Louie leaves three daughters, Diane F. Pepperdine of Gardner, Deborah A. Ducharme of Gardner and Karen M. Mailloux and her husband James of Hubbardston; one brother, Roger Ducharme of Leominster, sister-in-law, Annette Ducharme of Hubbardston; five grandchildren, Chantay Mitchell, Shalene Mitchell, Lu Khan Mitchell, Jesse Mailloux and Jamie Mailloux; three great-grandchildren, Aamir Mitchell Elmaola, Jabrielle Mitchell Elmaola and Nylah Mitchell Elmaola; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Alfred Ducharme.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, August 23rd at 11:30 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 23rd from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
