Lorraine M. (Nowak) Wickman, 82, of 165 Ryan Street, Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, March 26, 2014 in Heywood Hospital of Gardner, after being stricken ill at home.
Lorraine was born in Gardner on March 14, 1933, the daughter of the late Max F. and Eva (Jaillet) Nowak.
She graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1951. She later earned an Associate's Degree from Mount Wachusett Community College of Gardner in 1996, and a Bachelor's Degree in 1998 from Fitchburg State College.
Lorraine was employed by Mount Wachusett Community College as a Curriculum Developer for many years until retiring recently. She was previously employed by the City of Gardner School Department as a Teachers' Aide.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner. Lorraine was a devout Catholic who enjoyed attending Bible study sessions.
Lorraine enjoyed doing crafts, creating homemade cards and doing zentangled art. She was a talented poetry writer, having many of her poems published in The Gardner News. Lorraine treasured spending time with her family.
One of her proudest accomplishments was the founding of the LIFE program at Mount Wachusett Community College, a program which she was highly devoted to and served as the coordinator of for many years. Lorraine was actively involved with many organizations throughout the community, and in 2009 she was awarded the Community Service Award from the Greater Gardner Chamber of Commerce.
Lorraine was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Francis L. "Tom" Wickman, who died April 29, 2001.
She leaves three sons, Jeffrey W. Wickman of Waterville Maine, Barry J. Wickman and his wife Gisele of Gardner and Randy P. Wickman and his wife Kelley of Rindge, NH; three grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher and Rebecca; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Bobby Nowak.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 31st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner at a later date.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday, March 31st from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
