Lionel J. LeBlanc, 92, of 125 Connors Street, Gardner died peacefully Friday, April 8, 2011 in the Legend Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Gardner.
Born in Moncton, N.B. Canada on December 7, 1918, he was the son of the late Dionese Ernest and Laura (Richard) LeBlanc.
Mr. LeBlanc was a machine operator employed by Collier Keyworth Company of Gardner for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was also employed by The Woods of Westminster Golf Course as a maintenance worker.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was a member and greens keeper of the Westminster Country Club in Westminster.
Mr. LeBlanc was a United States WWII Navy Veteran, and received the Asiatic-Pacific Area ribbon with three engagement stars, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the American Area Ribbon and the Victory Medal.
Lionel enjoyed gardening. He was a sports enthusiast, who loved to ski and play golf. In his early years he played third base for the Holy Rosary Baseball Team. He also was an end for the Gardner Merchants Football Team.
He leaves his wife of 69 years, Ruth M. (Carter) LeBlanc of Gardner; one son, Daniel LeBlanc of Ashburnham; one daughter, Kimberley Dolan and her husband Timothy of Westminster; three grandchildren, Kelley, Audrey and Katie Dolan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, David LeBlanc who died in 2003, four brothers, Eugene, Yvon, Oscar and Raymond LeBlanc and by one sister, Elizabeth Duplessie.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon at a later date.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Wednesday, April 13th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
