Leslie E. "Sonny" Needham, Jr., 62, of 142 Nichols Street, Gardner died suddenly Wednesday, July 27, 2011 in Heywood Hospital following a brief illness.
Leslie was born in Ashburnham on March 13, 1949, the son of the late Leslie E. Needham, Sr. and Claire (Pretat) Needham.
Prior to retiring in 1998, Leslie was a Jet Engine Mechanic employed by General Electric Company of Fitchburg for several years. He also was a cab driver for Smiley's Taxi of Gardner.
Leslie graduated from Fitchburg High School, Fitchburg with the Class of 1968.
He was a United States Vietnam War Air Force Veteran, and received the AF Training Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with Three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, AF Outstanding Unit Award with One Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Good Conduct Medal with Four Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, the National Defense Service Medal, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon and the AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon. Leslie was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association.
His hobbies included fishing and watching movies. He most enjoyed spending time with his grandson.
Leslie leaves one son, Robert C. Needham of Gardner; one daughter, Maria C. Goguen and her husband Neil of Gardner; his step-mother, Betty Needham of Gardner; two brothers, Richard A. Needham and his wife Ginny of Winchendon and Michael A. Needham and his wife Deborah of Winchendon; four sisters, Jean M. Needham of Winchendon, Diane E. Caise of Gardner, Kelly A. Ouellette and her husband Paul of Gardner and Dale A. Despres and her husband Scott of Westminster; one grandson, Beau N. Goguen; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 5th at 1:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Friday, August 5th from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
