Leonard R. Mitko, Jr., 71, of Gardner, died unexpectedly Thursday, October 31, 2019, in his residence.

Born in Ware, MA, on July 11, 1948, he was the son of the late Leonard and Dolores E. (King) Mitko. He graduated from Quabbin Regional High School with the Class of 1968. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army from 1969-1971, where he received the National Service Defense Medal. He was employed as a machinist by New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Peterborough, NH, for several years until his retirement in 2019.

Leonard was a member of Annunciation Parish/ Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner, MA,  and a member of the Barre Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed spending time in nature. He was also a gifted archer. Leonard liked playing cards and bingo. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family. 

He leaves three brothers Matthew Mitko of Carver, MA, Joseph Mitko and his wife Penny of Barre, and John Mitko of Barre; one sister Brenda Landry and her husband James of Ellington, CT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Leonard was predeceased by his wife of 45-years Yvonne M. Mitko, who died February 3, 2019,

A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be held Friday, November 22, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon, MA.
