Leo J. "Red" Poirier, 76, of 133 Otter River Rd., Gardner, died Monday in his residence following an illness.
Born in Rumford, ME on August 29, 1927, he was the son of Ambroise and Leocadie (Thibeau) Poirier.
He owned and operated Moulded Corrugated Paper, Inc. of Templeton from 1971 until retiring in 1990. He was part owner of Moulded Corrugated Products of Baldwinville from l968 to 1987. He was also a salesman for Corrugated Products. He was part owner of R & P Liquors, Inc. of Gardner from 1970 to 1984.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 747 of Gardner.
Mr. Poirier enjoyed golf and skiing. He played football and was a member of the Gardner Merchants Football Team.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1946 to 1947.
He leaves his wife of 52 years, Theresa E. (d'Entremont) Poirier of Gardner; 3 nieces, 2 nephews and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner.
Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
