Leo E. Plamondon, 66, of Gardner, died Saturday, July 16, 2011 in UMASS Medical Center, 55 Lake Avenue North, Worcester following an illness.
Born in Fitchburg on December 2, 1944, he was the son of the late George and Rachel (Belanger) Plamondon.
Prior to retiring in 2001 due to illness, Leo was a Computer Technician employed by Digital Manufacturing Company of Maynard and Westminster for 23 years. He was previously employed by A.C.T. of Marlboro.
Leo attended Notre Dame High School for three years, and graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1962. He attended accounting courses at Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner and participated in many computer classes sponsored by Digital Manufacturing Company. Leo also taught night courses in electronic assembly techniques at Assabet Regional Vocational Technical School in Marlboro.
He was a United States Vietnam War Air Force Veteran from 1962 through 1966. He served in Turkey as a Non-Morse Intercept Operator and stateside served as a Classified Control Specialist.
Leo was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Gardner. He was a former member of the church choirs of St. Francis of Assisi Church and Immaculate Conception Church, both of Fitchburg.
He was a past member and former Senior Councilor of the United Commercial Travelers, UCT - a fraternal organization.
Leo was an accomplished drummer and self-taught pianist. He enjoyed playing along with music of the 50's and 60's, as well as his jazz favorites by artists David Brubeck and Joe Morello.
Leo's hobbies included cooking and baking his own bread, bicycle riding and doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed fishing with his son, even though they only managed to collect blueberries. He was always eager to learn and enjoyed reading and watching the History Channel. Leo loved animals, especially dogs and cats. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 21 years, Louise (Guertin) Plamondon of Gardner; one son, Dana Paul Plamondon of Otter River; two daughters, Sheila Jean Craigen and her husband Richard of Leominster and Karen Ann Cormier and her husband Michael of Fitchburg; three grandchildren, Sara Plamondon, Michael Craigen and Hazel Cormier; one aunt Agnes Deshayes of Fitchburg; one sister-in-law, Sistina Plamondon of Laurel, DE; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Jean Plamondon and by one sister, Gloria Forgues.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 21st with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in MA Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
A calling hour in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church will be Thursday, July 21st from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.
