Leo Raymond"Ray" Penttinen

Leo "Ray" Raymond Penttinen, 77, of 47 Lake Street, Gardner died peacefully Monday, September 9, 2013 in HealthAlliance Hospital, Leominster, with his sons by his side.
Born in Gardner on January 8, 1936, he was the son of the late Eino and Rosa (Hanninen) Penttinen.
Leo was employed by Federal Express in Wilmington as a driver for several years, retiring in 1998.
He graduated from Gardner High School, Gardner with the Class of 1954, and received his Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1962.
Leo was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Gardner.
Leo enjoyed golfing, watching football and spending time with his family. He spent many years volunteering his time helping those in AA.
Leo leaves two sons, Eric W. Penttinen and his wife Elizabeth of Arnold, MD and Neil R. Penttinen and his wife Michelle Fournier of Windham, NH; his sister-in-law, Marion Matilainen of Westminster; two grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah Penttinen of Windham, NH; three nieces, Anne Halliday, Martha Gauvin and Jane Schulz; and two nephews, John and Michael Matilainen; his former wife, Marjorie (DeVincentis) Penttinen of S. Yarmouth, MA. He was predeceased by his brother, Waino Matilainen and by his beloved friend of 15 years, Anne Hamilton, who died May 8, 2013.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 12th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Service at 1:00 p.m. in Faith Lutheran Church, 627 Green Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Thursday, September 12th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, New England Division, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
