Leo J. Melanson, 82, of Gardner, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016 in his residence, following a long illness.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 1, 1933, the son of the late Mark and Arsene (Gedrey) Melanson.
Leo was employed by Vogue Wall Covering of Fitchburg as a color mixer for five years, retiring in 1996. He was previously employed by James River Paper Mill of Fitchburg as a machine tender for 35 years.
He was a member of Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner.
Leo loved the outdoors, and gardening was his passion. He also enjoyed woodworking, making lawn ornaments and feeding the birds.
He leaves his wife of 38 years, Lena L. (Bastarache) Melanson of Gardner; two sons, Donnie Melanson and his wife Susan of PA and Kenneth Dupont of Fitchburg; one daughter, Ann Simon of Sterling; two sisters, Ann Comeau of N.B. Canada and Julia Chestna of Worcester; nineteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Leo was predeceased by his brother, Edward Melanson; and sister, Patricia Belliveau.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Parish/Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner.
