Leo T. Guertin, 79, of 78 Racette Ave., Gardner, died Saturday, July 4th in UMASS Medical Center, University Campus, Worcester, surrounded by his family following a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Born in Gardner on April 16, 1930, he was the son of Ernest L. and Eugenie (Voisine) Guertin.
Leo was Superintendent of Cemeteries employed by the City of Gardner for 32 years until retiring in 1992.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Leo was a member of the Gardner Lodge of Elks #1426, the Salmon Club and the Deer Club.
Leo enjoyed woodworking, boating and scuba diving. He was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots football team. He particularly enjoyed watching television, especially news channels.
Leo was a U. S. Army Korean War Veteran and received the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and the National Defense Service Medal.
He leaves his wife of 50 years, Estelle D. (St.Pierre) Guertin of Gardner; a son, Gary L. Guertin of Gardner; a daughter, Linda L. LeBlanc and her husband Steve of Felton, Delaware; 2 sisters, Doris Bickford of Templeton, Cecile Molloy and her husband James of New Port Richey, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Chelsea and Ciera Guertin of Gardner, Luc and Gillian LeBlanc of Fulton, Delaware; one aunt, Dianne Guertin of Templeton; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Leona Duguay of Gardner.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 10th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in the MA. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, July 10th from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
