Leo E. Cormier

Leo E. Cormier, 80, of 35 Waterford St., Gardner, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 7th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, shortly after being stricken ill at home.

Born in Gardner on March 12, 1927, he was the son of Alyre and Philomene (Boudreau) Cormier.

Leo was part owner and operator of People's Fuel & Trucking, Inc. of Gardner for 60 years until retiring in 1998.

He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of the Acadien Social Club, Beagle Club, Deep Sea Club, V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner, and a benefit member of Fraternal Order Of Eagles Aerie 747 of Gardner. Leo was a very sociable person who enjoyed eating out, playing cards, and had a passion for trucks of all types. Leo was also an avid golfer. He spent 16 winters in Holiday, Florida.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran and received the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal.

He leaves his wife of 59 years, Yvonne (Cote) Cormier of Gardner; 5 daughters, Judy A. LeBlanc of E. Templeton, Susan E. Moore and her husband William, Nancy A. Begin and her husband Michael, Tina M. Perini, Cathy J. Cormier and her fiancé Steven Hanks all of Gardner; 1 brother, Omer J. Cormier and his wife Jeannine of Gardner; 3 sisters, Yvonne M. McKenna and her husband John of Waltham, Claire M. Fountaine and her husband Aime of Vienna, VA, Lucille M. Vezina of Ashburn, VA; 6 grandsons, Troy LeBlanc, Jason, Jeffrey, Joshua Perini, Adam and Curtis Begin; 1 granddaughter, Christina LeBlanc; 2 great-grandchildren, Jacob Nichols and Hannah Perini; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Normand Cormier and a sister, Dora Laliberty.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 11th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Tuesday, April 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
