Lawrence A. "Larry" Ducharme, 69, of 481 Park St., Gardner died Wednesday, March 30th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following a short illness.
Born in Gardner on August 22, 1935, he was the son of Francis and Esther (Brown) Ducharme.
He owned and operated Larry's Variety Store in Athol for 42 years until retiring in 1998.
He was a member of Chestnut Street Methodist Church of Gardner. He was a member of the Deer Club, George Lodge of Elks #1426, Napoleon Club, and enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling and all sports.
He was a Korean War U.S. Army Veteran and received the Good Conduct Medal.
His wife of 39 years, Alice Theresa (Dembek) Ducharme died in 2003.
He leaves a stepson, Alan Lovell of Athol; 3 daughters, Cynthia J. Puckett and husband Ronald of Greeneville, TN, Karen D. LaSalle and husband Mark of Athol; Jane R. (Brinkley) Ducharme and husband Thomas of Providence, RI; 2 sisters, Rosemary Ducharme and Patricia McPherson both of Gardner; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother Francis Ducharme, a half-brother Richard Smith and a sister Dorothy Pendergast.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 2nd @ 10:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday, April 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
