Laurie W. Miettinen, 63, of 455 South Road, Templeton, died Tuesday, June 29th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, shortly after being stricken ill at home.
Born in Athol on September 22, 1940, he was the son of William and Joan (D'Etcheuerry) Miettinen.
He was a self-employed contractor from 1968 until retiring in 2001. He was formerly employed by Sanborn Machine Co. of Leominster.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, four-wheeling, snowmobiling and being outdoors.
He leaves his wife of 40 years, Sheila M. (Austin) Miettinen of Templeton; 2 sons, Kevin L. Miettinen of Leominster and Craig W. Miettinen of Winchester, NH; 1 daughter, Tina M. Babineau of Gardner; 3 sisters, Linda J. Smith of Springfield, Nancy J. Pokki of East Templeton and Martha J. Duguay of Southbridge; 5 grandchildren, Tia M., Tara M., Sky M. Babineau; Lacey J. and Hannah M. Miettinen; 1 uncle, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carrie A. Miettinen of Templeton who died in 1968 and a sister, Elinor J. Putnam of Baldwinville.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 3rd at 8:00 p.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner. Rev. Andre Dargis will officiate. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday July 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
