Larry E. Gordon-Kangas, 65, of Beaverton, Oregon, formerly of Hubbardston, MA, died peacefully Monday, November 25, 2013 in the Legacy Hopewell House Hospice of Portland, Oregon.
Born in Gardner on July 28, 1948, he was the son of the late Waldemar E. and Dorothy (Ronnholm) Kangas.
Larry graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1966, and received his Bachelors of Art Degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
He owned and operated Kangas Murals of Beaverton, OR for many years.
Larry proudly served his country for 21 years in the United States Air Force as a navigator pilot, and retired from the service as a Lieutenant Colonel.
He enjoyed camping, hiking, kayaking and spending time sightseeing with his wife.
Larry leaves his wife of six years, Sandy (Gordon) Kangas of Portland, OR; two sons, Jeff and Casey Mishima of Portland, OR; two brothers, George Kangas and his wife Dee of Holly Hill, FL and Gary Kangas and his wife Donna of Hubbardston; two sisters, Esther Gonzales and her husband Jose of Worcester and Nancy H. Kangas of Gardner; seven nieces, six nephews, several grand-nieces and grand-nephews and two cousins. He also leaves his best friend, Michael Tucker of San Diego, CA.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 117 Main Street, Westminster, with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner. Burial will be in Rural Glen Cemetery, Hubbardston.
A calling hour will be Saturday, February 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church.
