Larry R. Brown, 87, of 935 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg, formerly of Clifton Park, NY and Virginia, died peacefully Saturday, January 18, 2014 in The Gables of Fitchburg.
Born in St. Mary's, West Virginia on March 30, 1926, he was the son of the late Frank C. and Ila (McFarland) Brown.
Larry graduated from St. Mary's High School, West Virginia with the class of 1945. He attended the University of West Virginia, Morgantown, West Virginia and received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute of Blacksburg, VA, currently the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
Larry was a Chemical Engineer employed by General Electric Company of Waterford, NY for 21 years, retiring in 1991. He was previously employed by Celanese Corporation of Narrows, VA.
He was a United States WWII Army Air Force Veteran.
Larry was a longtime member of the Jonesville United Methodist Church of Jonesville, NY.
He was proud of his Scottish heritage with the McFarland Clan, he enjoyed attending Highland Games wherever they may have been, and was the unofficial photographer for his church for many years. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was a member of the Arrowhead Council of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving its Silver Beaver Award for 50 active years. He was also a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the Instrument Society of America and is an Alumni of Kappa Sigma Nu.
Larry was predeceased by his wife, Anne T. (Troy) Brown who died in 1991.
He leaves four sons, Justin Brown and his wife Carrie of Reston, VA, Lance Brown of Augusta, GA, Bruce Brown and his wife Sonya of Knoxville, TN and Pastor Christopher Brown and his wife Kathy of Gardner; one daughter, Melissa Pesterfield of Bowling Green, KY; two brothers, W. Dale Brown and his wife Patsy of Marietta, OH and Ellis Brown and his wife Shirley of Proctorville, West Virginia; eight grandchildren, Scott Brown, Matthew Brown, Joshua Pesterfield, Matthew, Megan, Marcie, Meredith and Garry Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Eric, Anna Marie, Kerry, Lindsay, Matthew, Sara, Logan, Bridget and Addison; two nieces, Rebecca Wild and Kyla Brown; two nephews, Darren Brown and Ryan Brown; and several cousins.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m. in the Dudley Memorial Mortuary, 729 Virginia Avenue, Bluefield, VA. Larry's son, Pastor Christopher Brown will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Bluefield, VA.
