Keith Egbert "Buck" Watson, 67, of 12 Baldwinville State Road, Winchendon, died Friday, November 16th in UMASS Medical Center-University Campus, Worcester after a long battle with leukemia.
Born March 21, 1940 on the family farm in Philadelphia, NY, a town in northern New York, he was the son of the late Lewis Emerson and Lora Charlotte (Potter) Watson. His mother died shortly after his birth and he and his siblings were raised by their step-mother, Theresa Wood Watson.
Prior to his retirement in 1997, Keith was a machinist for 35 years employed by General Electric Co. of Fitchburg where he operated sophisticated machines which manufactured heavy turbines used in submarines, diesel engines and other equipment for the military and industry in the United States and around the world. He received special commendation for processes he developed.
Keith received his elementary and high school education in the public schools in Philadelphia where he participated in cross country, basketball and baseball. He worked on local farms, in mills and service stations before joining the U.S. Marines. He also received a Black Belt in karate.
Keith was a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran, serving three years active duty and serving in the reserves during the late 1950's and early 1960's. He was honorably discharged a Lance Corporal in 1964.
Keith was a member of the B.A.S.S. Club. He enjoyed fishing and collecting fishing equipment. Keith also enjoyed watching sports on television, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He liked to spend time recounting stories of his youth, work and the Marines to his children, grandchildren, and friends.
Mr. Watson was a man of strong moral character who seems to have passed this noble trait on to his children. He was a dedicated family man and skilled worker. Keith will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
