Juliette M. 'Judy' (Duteau) Jodaitis, 88, of 125 Connors St., Gardner, died Monday, October 4th in St. Vincent Hospital @ Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, following an illness.
Born on October 15, 1915, she was the beloved daughter of Romeo N. and Eva C. (Barthel) Duteau.
With her late husband, Peter V. Jodaitis, she owned and operated Jodaitis'Market in Gardner for many years where she was famous for her kielbasa, apple pies, Italian meatballs and French pork pies. She was an exceptional crocheter of bedspreads, tablecloths and doilies and was very proud of winning a Blue Ribbon and the Grand Prize at the Spencer County Fair in 1994. She was involved at the Binnall House, organizing many activities and social gatherings. She was always willing to lend a hand, crack a joke and visit friends and relatives who were ill. Her love of life, positive attitude and independent nature helped sustain her during her prolonged illness.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church.
Her husband of 41 years, Peter V. Jodaitis, died in 1935.
She leaves 1 son, Peter V. Jodaitis of Chico, CA; 1 daughter, Janet A. Mulvey of North Falmouth; 2 brothers, Romeo R. Duteau of Gardner and Ronald Duteau of Port Orange, FL; 6 grandchildren, Joseph, Timothy, David Mulvey, Judith Murphy, George and Nancy Jodaitis; 5 great-grandchildren, Amber, Justin, Jade Jodaitis, Michael Murphy and Rosemary Mulvey. She was predeceased by 3 sisters, Rita Girouard, Doris Parker, Theresa Wickberg and 1 brother, Raymond J. Duteau.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, October 16th @ 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner.
At her request, there are no calling hours.
