Josephine S. “Josie” (Dowal) Cormier, 93, of Gardner, died peacefully, Tuesday, March 10, 2020, in Lifecare Center of Leominster.
Born in Gardner on April 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Vincenty and Stephania (Sczawinzski) Dowal. She was a graduate of Gardner High School with the Class of 1944. She was employed by Frank Favor Silver Shop of Gardner for several years.
She was a parishioner of the former St. Joseph’s Church of Gardner. She was a charter member of the Polish American Social League. Josie loved to sew, braid rugs, and work on arts and crafts. She enjoyed working in her gardens. Josie had a strong faith and passed it along to the most important people in her life—her family and friends, whom she loved and cherished the most.
Josie is survived by one daughter, Christine DiPasquale and her husband Bernard of Gardner; one son, Jeffery V. Cormier and his wife Bonnie of Westfield; one brother, Br. Luke Dowal O.S.B. in St. John’s Abbey of Collegeville, MN; one granddaughter, Kate Ashley Cormier of Westfield; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63-years, Raymond F. Cormier, who died in 2011, and one brother, John Dowal.
Due to the recent COVID-19 (Corona Virus) outbreak, Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, at a later date.
