Joseph J. "John" Melanson

Joseph J. "John" Melanson, 92, of 61 Jean St., Gardner, died Tuesday, April 13th in Heywood Hospital, Gardner, following an illness.
Born in St. Antoine, NB, Canada, on March 22, 1912, he was the son of Francois and Zita (Allain) Melanson. He arrived in Gardner in 1950.
He was an assembler employed by the former Heywood-Wakefield Co. of Gardner for 27 years, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Melanson was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church and the Acadien Social Club. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Marie Aline (Surette) Melanson of Gardner; 1 son, Rene Melanson and his wife, Denise; a daughter, Ann Mastin and her husband, George of Denville, NJ; 3 brothers, Ernest Melanson of Moncton, NB, Canada, Irois Melanson of Cocagne, NB, Canada, Clarence Melanson of Lancaster; 3 sisters, Azelie LeBlanc and Leda Maillet, both of St. Antoine, NB Canada, Leona Robichaud of St. Marie, NB, Canada; 2 granddaughters, Leigh and Corey Mastin and 2 grandsons, Jay and Matthew Melanson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Antoine Melanson of Moncton, NB Canada and 2 sisters, Yvonne Bastarache and Helene Robichaud, both of NB, Canada.

Funeral services will be held Saturday from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols St., Gardner.

Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
