Joseph F. "Shiggy" Jankowski, 83, of 236 Leamy St., Gardner, died Thursday, July 27th in his residence after a long period of declining health.
Born in Gardner on December 7, 1922, he was the son of Maciej and Ursula (Nowicki) Jankowski.
He was a superintendent employed by Lilly Industrial Coating of Templeton for 22 years until retiring in 1984.
He was a 1941 graduate of Gardner High School.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, V.F.W. Ovila Post 905 of Gardner, P.A.C.C. and the former Gardner Merchants Football Team. He enjoyed golfing, sports and walking.
Joseph was a U.S. Army Veteran and received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon w2ith Bronze Service Arrowhead, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star.
He leaves his wife of 60 years, Corinne A. (Gagne) Jankowski of Gardner; 2 daughters, Virginia U. Travaglini and husband Wilson of Gardner; Cynthia A. Boucher and husband Roger of Winchendon; 1 sister, Stella O'Donnell of Leominster; 3 grandchildren, Kristina Singer of Hollywood, CA, Keith and Lauren Boucher of Winchendon; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Jankowski.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, August 5th at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 358 Pleasant St., Gardner.
