Joseph P.W. "Phits" "Joe" Gauvin, 80, of 383 E. River Street, Orange, died peacefully, Thursday, December 15, 2011 in Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol, following a brief illness.
Born in Gardner on March 31, 1931, he was the son of the late Joseph C. and Mary D. (Roy) Gauvin.
Joseph was employed by M.H. Laipson Dairy in Worcester as a Plant Manager for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was later employed in the Maintenance Department of Conant Ball Company until 1988.
Joseph was a member of Four Square Church in Athol. He was a volunteer for cardiac rehabilitation at Mount Wachusett Community College, a volunteer and in charge of Bingo at the Senior Center, a volunteer at the food pantry in Orange and a volunteer of his church. Joseph was also an avid photographer.
Joseph was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal.
He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Lorraine E. (Strom) Gauvin, who died May 30, 2005.
He leaves one sister, Violette Roberts of Shrewsbury; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Joseph was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph A. Gauvin and Joseph D. Gauvin and by one sister, Irene Brassard.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 30th at 1:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
