Joseph L. "Pep" Fredette, 87, of 31 Waterford Street, Gardner for the past 45 years, died peacefully Saturday, October 9th in Wachusett Manor, Gardner following a short illness.
Born in Gardner on November 7, 1922, he was the son of the late Anselme and Laudia (Boucher) Fredette.
Joseph was a gunsmith employed by H & R Manufacturing of Gardner for 27 years, retiring in 1987. He was previously a self-employed oil burner technician.
Joseph was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was a former Exalted Ruler twice and very active member of Elks,Lodge #1426 of Gardner. He was also a member of the Acadien Social Club, The Beagle Club, The Rabbit Club all of Gardner, and the Templeton and Gardner Fish and Gun Clubs.
His hobbies included craft woodworking, cooking and watching the cooking channel. He enjoyed traveling to visit his children in Florida, Minnesota and Alaska.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie J. (Miller) Fredette who died October 28, 1998.
He leaves two sons, James L. Fredette of Savage, MN and Michael A. Fredette, Sr. and his companion Susan LaPrise of Gardner; four daughters, Jane M. Bettez and her husband Robert of Gardner, Pamela A. Gonzalez of Gardner, Patricia J. Nobrega and her husband Francis of Spring Hill, FL and Kathleen A. Sousa and her husband Brian of Weeki Wachee, FL; one brother, Charles E. Fredette of Baldwinville; fourteen grandchildren, Robert Bettez, Jr, Lisa Ellis, David Bettez, Matthew Bettez, Mark Bettez, Andrea Gonzalez, Sally Robinson, Kelly Darcy, Julie Phordresher, Thomas Nobrega, Kris Sousa, Wendi Sousa, Michael Fredette, Jr and Jessica Fredette; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roland and Francis Fredette and by two sisters, Bernadette Osucha and Gloria Taylor.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 30th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Saturday, October 30th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
