Joseph E. Drouin, Sr

June 20, 1916 — January 7, 2004

Joseph "Gene" E. Drouin, Sr., 87, of 194 Central St., Gardner died Wednesday in his residence following a long illness.
Born in Winchendon on June 20, 1916, he was the son of Alfred and Beatrice (Bourgault) Drouin.
He was an assembler employed by Simplex Time Recorder 18 years, retiring in 1983. He was previously employed by the former Florence Stove Co. of Gardner.
He was a member of V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner and the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner. He was an avid bowler and participated in both league as well as tournaments including winning the 1971 State Championships in the team event representing Simplex. He often frequented the Gardner Ten Pins where he coached and cheered for his family and friends. He also enjoyed playing pool.
Mr. Drouin was a World War II U.S. Army Staff Sergeant serving in the 4608th Quartermaster Truck Company. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Service Star.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, Patricia M. (Bourque) Drouin of Gardner; 3 sons, Joseph E. Drouin Jr. of Gardner, Donald E. Drouin of Westminster and Michael W. Drouin of Winchendon; 3 daughters, Diana M. Nicholson of Morris, IL, Leona Biskie of South Africa and Cheryl L. Taylor of Westminster, VT; 3 brothers, John Drouin of Orange, George Drouin of Gardner and Joseph "Al" Drouin of Winchendon; 3 sisters, Rachel Brouillet, Marie "Pauline" Murray, both of Templeton and Anna "Marion" Richard of Phillipston; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. A daughter, Christine L. Drouin of South Royalston died in 1952.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols St., Gardner.

Following cremation, burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Winchendon.

A calling hour at the funeral home will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
