Joseph R."Romeo" Bastarache

Joseph "Romeo" Bastarache, 85, of 51 Hospital Road, Baldwinville, formerly of 125 Connors, Gardner died Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Romeo was born in Bouctouche N.B. Canada on August 6, 1926, the son of the late Elzear and Mary Lue (Arsenault) Bastarache.
He was a steel worker employed by the former Van Huffel Company of Gardner for 11 years, retiring in 1984. He was previously employed by S. Bent Company of Gardner for 16 years.
Romeo was a United States WWII Army Veteran.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner.
Romeo loved spending time with his family, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed creating crafts. Romeo was a fan of wrestling and the "Three Stooges".
Romeo leaves his wife of 56 years, Annette (Cormier) Bastarache of Gardner; four sons, Robert Bastarache of Pensacola, FL, Rene Bastarache of Athol, James Bastarache and his companion Lynn Makosiev of Shirley and Michael Bastarache and his wife Suzan of Parker, Colorado; two daughters, Mariann Sargent of NC and Lisa Robichaud of Gardner; three brothers, Arthur Bastarache and his wife Cecilia of Gardner, Joseph Bastarache and his wife Gloria of Baldwinville and Jerome Bastarache of St. Antoine, N.B. Canada; three sisters, Elise Ann Richard of Gardner, Sister Regina, Society Mother of Peace, Maryville, MO and Maria Cormier of Bouctouche, N.B. Canada; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Adrien Bastarache and by one sister, Angela Cormier.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 17th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner.
A calling hour in the funeral home will be Monday, October 17th from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
