Joseph L. Allain

Joseph L. "Joe" Allain, 86, of 69 Baker Street, Gardner died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 23rd in Heywood Hospital, Gardner.

Born in Gardner on November 27, 1923, he was the son of the late Calixte and Emma (LeBlanc) Allain.

Joe was a mechanic with the Merchant Marines serving in Alaska for 11 years, retiring in 1987. He was previously employed by the Laborers Union 39 of Fitchburg.

Joe served 20 years in the United States Navy, and was a WWII Veteran. He received the WWII Victory Medal, the Asia-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Joe was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Gardner. He was alo a member of the VFW Ovila Case, Post 905 of Gardner and the American Legion Post #129 of Gardner.

Joe enjoyed flying remote control airplanes, photography, skiing, traveling and fishing.

He leaves one daughter, Debra Johnston and her husband Robert of San Jose, CA; three brothers, Donald Allain and his wife Claire of Woodbridge, VA, Norman Allain of Gardner, and Edward Allain and his wife Eva of Gardner; one sister, Jeanne Hetnick of Baldwinville; two granddaughters, Morgan and Jillian Johnston of San Jose, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Andre Allain and by one sister, Alfreda Ladroga.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 30th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner.

Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, December 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
