John F Morrissey

John F. Morrissey, 81, of 79 Century Way, Gardner, died peacefully Monday, January 26, 2015 in Gardner Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Gardner.
Born in Gardner on June 4, 1933, he was the son of the late Frederick and Olive (Richard) Morrissey.
John was a courier employed by Heywood Hospital of Gardner for 10 years. He was previously employed by V. Pelletier and Sons of Fitchburg as a truck driver for 22 years, retiring in 1989.
John was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church of Gardner, and its' St. Vincent de Paul Society, where he served as a two term Past President. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister.
John was a United States Korean War Air Force Veteran and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
He was a Fourth Degree member of the Bishop Beaven Assembly Knights of Columbus Honor Guard of Gardner; member, Sergeant at Arms from 1968-1970, past Commander from 1970-1971, and Honor Guard member from 1985 thru the present of the American Legion, Post 129 of Gardner; President from 1971-1972, Secretary and Treasurer from 1972 - 1983 of the Gardner Veterans Council; and past Secretary and Treasurer of the Past Commanders Association of the American Legion of Massachusetts.
John enjoyed bowling and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
He leaves his wife of 43 years, Joanne M. (Jacques) Morrissey of Gardner; two daughters, Kathleen D. Morrissey Boudreau of Gardner and Lynn F. Morrissey of Gardner; one brother, Edward T. Morrissey of Gardner; one granddaughter, Olivia Eileen Boudreau; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Reverend Leo Morrissey; and by three sisters, Eileen M. Decato, Lucille O. Armstrong and Jean F. Cavanaugh.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 31st from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, 135 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Gardner, at a later date.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
