John “Jack” W. Meany, 92, of Gardner, died peacefully Thursday, April 6, 2023, in his home after a period of declining health.
Born in Gardner on October 11, 1930, he was the son of the late Walter D. and Doris M. (Hatch) Meany. Jack was a United States Army Korean War Veteran serving from 1952 to 1954, where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Army Occupational Medal (Germany). He was the Director of Public Works employed by the City of Gardner for 39-years prior to his retirement. In his retirement, Jack was employed by People’s Fuel of Gardner.
Jack was a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Church of Gardner and a parishioner of Annunciation Parish of Gardner, practicing at its Holy Spirit Chapel. He was a member of the American Legion Post 129 of Gardner, member of the Lodge of Elks #1426 of Gardner, member of the Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Association, and a member of the Water Pollution Control Association.
Jack is survived by his four sons, John W. Meany Jr. and his wife Diane of Gardner, William J. Meany and his wife Carolyn of Gardner, Philip A. Meany and his significant other Janet Baczewski of Gardner and David B. Meany and his wife Noreen of Gardner; six grandchildren, John W. Meany III and his wife Angela, Megan Meany and her fiancé Esteban Gonzalez, Leah, and Serena Meany, Angela Diprima-Boudreau and her husband Douglas and Derek Gaidanowicz and his significant other Michelle Frigon; eight great-grandchildren, Sophia and Aubree Meany, Luca, and Arlo Gonzalez, Alex Wirth, Emily Diprima, Hunter, and Maxwell Giadanowicz; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife of 69-years, Elizabeth E. (Blake) Meany; a son, Thomas H. Meany; and his sister, Sr. Beatrice E. Meany.
A Calling Hour will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner, MA.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023, from the funeral home with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Annunciation Parish at Holy Spirit Chapel, 50 Lovewell Street, Gardner, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, West Street, Gardner, MA.
