John Joseph "Jay" Meaney, 49, of 15 Hillside Place, Gardner, died unexpectedly Thursday, July 12th in Somerville, MA.
He was born in Boston, MA on July 1, 1958, the son of William and Virginia (Walker) Meaney.
"Jay" was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Boston for 17 years, until retiring in 2002.
He was a U.S. Vietnam War Marine Veteran and received the Riffle Expert Badge.
"Jay" was an avid basketball fan, especially fond of Larry Bird, and he enjoyed reading. "Jay" was involved in "Toys for Tots" and the "Jerry Lewis Telethon."
He leaves two daughters, Kerri Ann Meaney of Brighton, MA and Cassie Meaney of Gardner; one brother, William Meaney and his wife AnnMarie of Norwell, MA; two sisters, Teresa DiNicola and her husband Michael of Woonsocket, RI and Margaret Sally of Everett, MA; a great aunt, Gertrude Faulkner of Belmont, MA; two nephews, who were also his Godsons, Michael DiNicola of Woonsocket, RI and David Singletary, Hyannis, MA; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Meaney.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 18th at 10:00 a.m. in the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon, MA.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, July 17th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
