John D. LeBlanc, 87, of 94 Summer Street, Fitchburg, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Hillcrest Nursing Home, Fitchburg surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.
John was born in Gardner on November 10, 1923, the son of the late Alban and Leona (Arsenault) Leblanc.
Prior to retiring in 1989, he was a Press Operator employed by Collier Keyworth Company of Gardner for forty years.
John was a United States WWII Navy Veteran. He was a Gunners Mate on the USS LST # 1 and received the American Area Campaign Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Ribbon with five Bronze Stars from serving in Africa, Sicily, Salerno, Anzio and Normandy. He was wounded in battle but continued to serve until his discharge in 1945. John has enjoyed several reunions with his shipmates over the last 19 years.
John was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Gardner, and attended Mass every morning. He was a member of the V.F.W. Ovila Case Post 905 of Gardner.
John enjoyed walking, playing cribbage and watching his favorite game shows and N.C.I.S on television. He loved sports and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
John was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice M. (Danielson) LeBlanc, who died August 28, 2008.
He leaves three sons, John D. LeBlanc, Jr and his wife Mary of Templeton, Roland L. LeBlanc and his wife Edith of Westminster and Gerard R. LeBlanc and his wife Debra of Gardner; two daughters, Joann M. Williams and her husband Richard of Gardner and Geralyn M. LeBlanc of Bay Point, CA; eight grandchildren, Corey LeBlanc, Carrie Koziol, Therese Packard, John E. LeBlanc, Melissa Williams, Gregory Williams, Jill LeBlanc and Amy LeBlanc; thirteen great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. John also leaves his long time friends, Raymond and Cecelia LeClair of Putnam, CT. He was predeceased by his brother, Leo LeBlanc.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 15th from the Boucher Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Nichols Street, Gardner with a Mass at 11:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.
Calling hours will be Friday, April 15th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home.
