John R. "Hak" Hakala, 48, of 590 Queen Lake Rd., Phillipston, died unexpectedly Thursday, September 8th after being stricken ill at home.
Born in Worcester on May 2, 1957, he was the son of Robert Hakala of Holden and the late Florence (Drawbridge) Hakala.
At the time of his death he was a Corrections Officer at N.C.C.I. of Gardner for the past 18 years.
He was a 1975 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School, Holden. He was a member of the Napoleon Club of Gardner and the Hubbardston Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid softball player who is in the U.S. Softball Hall of Fame in Florida and Pennsylvania.
He leaves his father, Robert Hakala of Holden; his fiancee, Diane L. Walker of Phillipston; 1 son, Jared J. Hakala of Templeton who is a Corrections Officer at Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley; 1 daughter, Erin M. Hakala of Phillipston; 1 sister, Diane Hakala of Arizona; 1 grandson Dylan Hakala of Templeton; 1 aunt and 1 uncle, George & Lillian Knipe of Paxton and several cousins.
All funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
